Binance.US 1099-DA Record Review: Basis & Transfer Gaps

A Binance.US-specific workflow for comparing Form 1099-DA with broader transaction history and outside acquisition records.

Direct answer: Binance.US says Form 1099-DA can be issued when you sell, exchange or spend digital assets, with no minimum dollar threshold for qualifying 1099-DA transactions. If the form does not match your full transaction history, compare like-for-like records before assuming either report is wrong.

1099-DA versus transaction history on Binance.US

Binance.US explains that its Form 1099-DA reflects qualifying digital-asset dispositions, while a transaction-history report contains broader account activity. Those totals can differ because the reports are built for different purposes.

RecordWhat it is forWhat to compare
Form 1099-DAQualifying sales, exchanges or spending of digital assets.Reported dispositions and proceeds for the tax year.
Transaction history / custom reportBroader activity including trades, deposits, withdrawals and distributions. The underlying activity that explains each reportable disposition and transfer.

How to review a Binance.US mismatch

  1. Download the 1099-DA from the Tax Reports area for the correct year.
  2. Generate a transaction-history report for the same tax year and make sure the report includes all transaction types.
  3. Match each 1099-DA disposition to the corresponding sale, exchange or spend in the broader history.
  4. Separate deposits and withdrawals from dispositions so wallet transfers are not treated as the same thing as sales.
  5. For crypto acquired elsewhere, recover the original acquisition date, cost and relevant fees from the source exchange or wallet.
  6. Under the IRS 2026 rules, remember that basis reporting is mandatory for covered digital assets, while transferred-in or otherwise noncovered assets may still require your own records.

If the totals still disagree

Check the date range and transaction categories first. Binance.US specifically notes that 1099 forms and transaction reports can differ because they cover different activity. If the same disposition is still inconsistent after a like-for-like comparison, preserve the form and export and ask the issuer to review the specific transaction.

Organize the evidence before escalating

Do not invent missing basis

If basis is absent for a noncovered or transferred-in asset, the safer workflow is to reconstruct it from the original acquisition evidence. A software import or short web form cannot manufacture a reliable purchase record.
