First: identify what actually changed
| Changed item | Compare against | Next record step |
|---|---|---|
| Name / taxpayer ID / state | Your current account and identity information | Use Coinbase Support’s correction process. |
| Gross proceeds | Transaction-level disposal export | Find the exact disposal(s) that explain the change. |
| Basis / covered status | Original acquisition and transfer trail | Check whether the asset is covered or noncovered and preserve your own records. |
| Nothing obvious | Old PDF vs. new PDF side by side | Record the version dates and ask support what was revised. |
If you already filed
Do not let a generic website decide whether you need an amended return. Preserve the return you filed, both 1099-DA versions, the transaction export and any support correspondence. A qualified tax professional can then determine whether the change affects your filed return.
What Coinbase officially says about corrections
Coinbase’s current Form 1099-DA help page instructs customers to contact support when the name, Social Security number/tax identification number or state on the form is incorrect. The exact correction process can depend on the issue, so use current Coinbase Support rather than a third-party template as the final authority.
A better support request
State the exact field or transaction you believe changed, the tax year, and the supporting records you compared. Never send a seed phrase, private key or password.
Build the request without accusing the issuer
